Arusha National Park, Tanzania

There’s nothing better than fresh air and beautiful scenery. This is what it’s like to hike through the lush green forests, hills, and mountains of Tanzania.

A hike is a wonderful activity to include in your itinerary, it’s a great way to explore the outdoors, reconnect with nature, and wind down.

Here’s a list of three regions in Tanzania with the best hiking trails.

Arusha, Northern Tanzania

Arusha, which is well known as the capital of tourism in Tanzania, has numerous hiking trails leading to waterfalls, lakes, and bird and wild animal viewing spots.

Spend a day hiking in Arusha National Park, Lake Duluti, or Mount Meru Waterfall Loop. The trails are great for spotting animals and bird species, as well as viewing Mount Kilimanjaro and Meru on a clear day. This will give you a chance to stretch your legs before your safari or mountain trekking.

Tanga, North East Tanzania

Tanga is filled with mountainous landscapes and spectacular trails. Depending on the route you choose, you can select from hard, medium, or easy trails.

The Magamba Nature Forest Reserve, Magoroto Forest Estate, or Amani Nature Reserve are excellent places to explore nature trails. Bird watching and spotting rare plant species are some of the things you can enjoy while walking through these forest reserves and taking in the history and traditions of the nearby villages.

Tanga’s hiking trails are perfect for warming up before climbing Mount Kilimanjaro.

Morogoro, Eastern Tanzania

Tanzania’s hidden gem, Morogoro, is home to Mikumi National Park, the Udzungwa Mountains National Park, and the Selous Game Reserve.

Embark on an adventure in the Uluguru or the Udzungwa Mountains. You can hike for a day or stay overnight for a two-day trek.

Although Morogoro is landlocked, there are several smaller waterfalls which you’ll find going up the mountains.

Next time you plan your holiday, consider hiking for an extra thrill and adventure before or after your safari.
